I have OpenOffice 2.1 installed on my system (Win XP). When I launch the productivity apps from the Home Page in N8, I get a new document tab, but then it disappears before I can create anything. If I browse my computer (Windows Explorer) and open an existing OO document (which has been now associated to N8), it displays in N8 with text properties sidebar, but accepts no input whatsoever. While N8 still shows on my Windows Task Bar, it does NOT appear using ALT+TAB.
You mentioned killing the soffice process. I did the following:
1. Locked up my N8 client by opening an odt document (associated as OpenDocument Text) from the file system with N8 running.
2. Checked my processes running. It listed soffice.bin, and two instances of soffice.exe.
3. Killed the soffice.bin process. This also took down one of the soffice.exe processes, but left the document up in N8.
4. Killed the remaining soffice.exe process. This closed the open document in N8, returning N8 to the Home Page. N8 client is still locked however.
5. Browsed file system with Windows Explorer - noticed .sxw documents have been associated with IBM Word Processing Document, while .odt documents are associated with OpenDocument Text.
6. Launched an .sxw document by double-clicking from Windows Explorer. N8 creates a new tab that is labeled with the file name, but displays an error message "An error occurred. The selected document could not be opened."
7. Dismissed the error message by clicking the OK button. The tab for the file closed in N8 and N8 returned to the Home Page, but client is locked.
8. Launched an .odt document by double-clicking from Windows Explorer. N8 opens the document and displays the Text Properties sidebar, but client is locked.
9. Killed the soffice.exe process running after step 8. Document closed in N8, returning N8 to Home Page, but client still locked.
I can repeat steps 6 - 9 as many times as I want (well I've tested up to 3 repeats each) with the same results.
I will check the other things you mention in your post and respond again. If you'd like to set up a screen sharing session to witness and troubleshoot, I would be open to this.
